Hi, I’m Brian! ?
I created React Jobs to help software developers like me grow their careers by finding engineering teams that use React.
I’ve been writing code for as long as I can remember. The first time I earned money from code I wrote was years before I could drive. Since then, each new and exciting technology I learned helped me grow both technically and professionally.
My passion for start-ups helped me discover Ruby on Rails, an open-source framework, which gave me a new outlook on both the internet and the importance of frameworks in programming.
So in 2012, I was primed and ready to recognize the potential of React. All I needed to do was get some experience. But, there was something preventing my growth.
What was missing? Control. The ability to decide which technologies I would be using. Gaining professional experience using technologies I recognized as growth opportunities.
As an early twenty-something with a lot of energy, I spent days searching, reading job descriptions, and inquiring about on-the-job technologies. My results were shocking. Not only were companies using mostly archaic technologies, but many lacked the intuition to include any relevant technologies in their job description. Instead, they opted for vague requirements, like “X years of programming experience”, which could apply to many software developers with a diverse range of backgrounds.
How could I take control of my career in technology without being able to choose the technologies I worked with? It seemed like my best option was becoming a freelancer so that I could design and build solutions from scratch. But, that would come with its own unique set of challenges.
Meanwhile, I was aggregating all of the latest content about React. I thought it might be useful to other developers, so I began sharing the feed on twitter. As the number of followers grew, I quickly learned that other developers wanted React Jobs, too!
I built React Jobs to be a place for engineering teams and software developers to grow with React.
React Jobs is for all of the people who want to grow in their careers by adding React to their resume and engineering teams that want team members excited to work with the technology they are building.
I’ve learned so much while working on React Jobs, and want to share what I know, so get in touch! I can talk about hiring based on tech skills endlessly. ?
Are you on Twitter? Let me know what you think: @brianpetro_ and @ReactExpo.
I’m best at responding via email, so don’t be shy: firstname.lastname@example.org.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
